Billet Family Testimonial

Sometimes the best things start with saying yes to something that feels a little scary.

โ€” Cori Rees, Hanna Havoc Billet Family

The Unknown

Taking in a billet player can feel scary at first, especially when you don't know what to expect. I understand that feeling greatly โ€” I was 22 and had a newborn at home when we welcomed our first player.

I'll be honest, we almost didn't do it. All the unknowns felt overwhelming. We worried about how it would work, if it would be a good fit, and how it would affect our family, especially with a new baby at home.

A Home Away From Home

These young men aren't just hockey players โ€” they're somebody's child away from their family, their home, their friends, trying to chase a dream. As a new mom, that really resonated with me. I broke down in tears thinking, "if that was my kid far away from home, I'd want them to have a safe home to welcome them."

More Than Hockey

What I learned is that you don't have to have all the answers at the start. You aren't expected to be perfect. You don't need a huge house or years of experience. You simply provide a supportive home away from home for a young athlete living far from family.

Over time, they become part of your daily life โ€” sharing meals, celebrating wins, and navigating life's challenges together.

The Reward

Before you know it, you've gained an extra family member and created memories that last long after the hockey season ends.
